Note that a recent paper has proposed that the subspecies of Emydura macquarii be either been given full species status, or become subspecies of Emydura krefftii

Information on all current books and websites should be treated as uncertain (July 2020)

Short neck turtles in the genus Emydura from the Clarence, Macleay, Nambucca, Hastings and Bellingen Rivers NSW, are related but status is uncertain, and new names have not been proposed at this stage.

This species is commonly sold in pet shops in Australia - usually as hatchlings.
