Previous subspecies of Emydura macquarii have either been given full species status, or have become subspecies of Emydura krefftii


Short neck turtles in the genus Emydura from the Clarence, Macleay, Nambucca, Hastings and Bellingen Rivers NSW, are related but status is uncertain, and they are yet to be renamed.

This species is commonly sold in pet shops in Australia - usually as hatchlings.
