Krefft's Turtle (Emydura macquarii krefftii) often has as a pale patch behind each eye.

It has been proposed that Krefft's Turtle regains its status as full species (Emydura krefftii) with subspecies, rather than a subspecies of the Macquarie (Short-Neck) Turtle Emydura macquarii
