SHORT-TAILED PIGMY MONITOR - Varanus brevicauda
The Short-tailed Pigmy Monitor (Varanus brevicauda)  was considered to be the smallest species of monitor in the world until Dampier Peninsula Monitor (Goanna) Varanus sparnus was described in 2014, which is now claimed to be the smallest species. Specimens of the new species would have been identified as this species in the past.
