Approximate distribution of the Carpentaria Snake (Cryptophis boschmai)
The Carpentaria Snake (Cryptophis boschmai) pictured above is from Mooranbah in central Queensland.
These snakes usually live under rocks, fallen timber, and in cracks in the ground. They give birth to 3 to 6 young and grow to just over half a metre long, mildly venomous. They eat mainly small lizards and snakes.
This species is sometimes confused with the Eastern Small Eyed Snake (Cryptophis nigrescens)
