REPTILES OF THE WORLD SPECIES LISTS

(NOT VENOMOUS)

WHITE LIPPED (D'Alberti's) PYTHON
also known as
BLACK (or Southern) WHITE-LIPPED PYTHON
Bothrochilus (was Leiopython) albertisii
or
(Leiopython hoserae)

Status uncertain

NOTE THAT BOTH THE NAMES ABOVE ARE CURRENTLY IN USE FOR THE SAME SPECIES

This species has been included as many references still include this as an Australian species.

There seems to be some confusion about whether this species is found in Australia at all. It is apparently found in the Torres Strait Islands however not all the islands are considered part of Australia.

Also note that this species has been split into 4 species however my understanding is that White-lipped Pythons from the Torres Strait would be Bothrochilus albertisii or Leiopython hoserae.

For a listing of the other species previously known as White Lipped Pythons please go HERE

Note that there is a possibility that the specimen above may no longer be called Bothrochilus albertisii or Leiopython hoserae however it would look very similar to Australian White-lipped pythons!

The White-lipped Python (Bothrochilus albertisii) or (Leiopython hoserae) is also found in New Guinea
