This species has now been split into the following 4 species

Open-litter rainbow-skink (Carlia pectoralis)

Whitsunday rainbow-skink (Carlia inconnexa)

Orange-flanked rainbow skink (Carlia rubigo)

Elegant rainbow skink (Carlia decora)

Carlia pectoralis is only found in the southern half of the range below

Description of two new Carlia species (Reptilia: Scincidae) from north-east Australia, elevation of Carlia pectoralis inconnexa Ingram & Covacevich 1989 to full species status, and redescription of Carlia pectoralis (de Vis 1884)

A common small species which is found amongst grass (especially tussocks) and litter.
