Distribution:- South America in the Amazon Basin from  Colombia to Northern Argentina

Comments:- Grows to approximately 2-3 metres (7-10ft)

The Boa Constrictor (Boa constrictor constrictor) above was called "Solomon" and I had the privilege of having him in my care for several months. Normally it is illegal to keep Boas in private homes in Australia. However Solomon was a well known Boa Constrictor that was normally kept on display at The Aberfoyle Hub Library in South Australia and correct paperwork was arranged so that I could house the snake while a new cage was being built at the library.

Usually gives birth to a litter of approximately 10 to 60 live young (averaging about 25). This is possibly the best known species of snake in the World and very common in the pet trade in most countries. Boas and other non-native reptiles are illegal to bring into Australia although some people may have snakes declared in amnesties.

Probably the best known pet Boa constrictor belonged to Michael Jackson, and was called Muscles.

Apparently Diana Ross was inspired by the name "Muscles" and Michael Jackson wrote a song called by that name for her but it is not about the snake!
You might also be interested to know that Michael Jackson's son Prince apparently also owned a Boa constrictor and has a collection of about 10 snakes including Anacondas and Pythons. So if you live in Los Angeles you might meet him at a reptile store!
