Distribution (covers both species):- Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Mauritania, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zaire, Zambia, Zimbabwe. Now extinct in Israel, and the Comoros Islands

Comments:- May grow to to over 16 ft (5m) Maximum recorded size is 6.45 m (21.2 ft)

Subspecies:-

C. n. africanus (East African Nile Crocodile)
C. n. chamses (West African Nile Crocodile)
C. n. corviei (South African Nile Crocodile) 
C. n. madagascariensis(Malagasy Nile Crocodile)
C. n. niloticus (Ethiopian Nile Crocodile)
C. n. pauciscutatus (Kenyan Nile Crocodile) 


NOTE THAT C .n. suchus (Central African Nile Crocodile) has recently been raised to full species level and is now called the:-

African Crocodile or Desert Crocodile - Crocodylus suchus

Note that these photos may be of a subspecies of Nile Crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus sp). or of African Crocodile (Desert Crocodile) - Crocodylus suchus
